This is a follow up on my post about HR 554 which would require all bills being voted on to be posted online for 72 hours prior to a vote.

http://www.mcswat.com/fightthesheep/?p=102

After I posted this asking everyone to contact their Reps about signing the Discharge Petition so this bill could come to the floor, I myself called my Representative and a few others who had “sponsored” this bill. What I found out, was that the Liberal Reps who had “sponsored” this bill had no intention of signing the Discharge Petition. The general response to the Discharge Petition was that it was a waste of the Representative’s time. How long does it take someone to sign their name??

Now lets think about that a minute, they are sponsoring a bill that they wont help bring to a vote? Now isnt that convenient? Seems to me you can sponsor anything you want when you dont have to back it up.

In reality, any liberal that will not sign it is just playing partisan politics as it would embarass Pelosi. That being said, I would encourage everyone to remind their Reps that we were promised a new era of transparency and we see through their partisan politics.

If you are a regular reader here, then you know that FTS encourages people to contact Congress and hold them accountable.

That being said, there is a very worthwhile movement happening and we all need to apply the pressure. There is a drive to pass Resolution 554, which would require all bills to be posted online for 72 hours before being voted on in the House. Please visit the following site and start calling people. Start with your State, but dont limit yourself to just those people.

http://www.wethepeoplecanread.com

Apparently this Resolution has to go to a Discharge Petition ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discharge_petition ) because Pelosi will not put it on the House’s agenda. I am still trying to get my head around why anyone would not want this unless you have something to hide. I called the Speaker’s office twice to ask some questions but they kept forwarding me to a recording where I could leave a message. Oh well…

Please forward the link to your friends or if you are a FB user you can use the “Share on Facebook” button at the bottom of this post and it will post this blog on your page.

If you get any good feedback, we would love to hear it =D

As a taxpayer and voter, this pisses me off and it should piss you off too.

Yesterday, while the Senate Finance Committee debated this massive Baucus health care bill, a measure was proposed that would have the health care bill that the committee would be voting on posted on it’s website (in its full legislative language, not conceptual) for 72 hours for the public to review. All the liberals with the exception of Senator Lincoln from Arkansas, shot it down saying it is tradition to work from the conceptual language. They then proposed and passed a measure offering the conceptual language and CBO analysis.

This raises several questions to me:
-Can the CBO give accurate numbers based on conceptual language?
Answer is NO per the CBO!

-Since when is it “tradition” to pass legislature that affects 1/6th of our GDP?
IT’S NOT!!! Stop treating it like it is no big deal. Do your damn job and educate yourself and the taxpayers on what you are proposing.

-Why cant we read the bill before you vote on it?
-Why can’t we have real numbers to look at?
-What are you afraid of?
-Where is the transparency?
-What is the hurry?

http://finance.senate.gov/sitepages/committee.htm

We need to be contacting every single one of these people asking why they want to treat this as another run of the mill bill. Why do they think the American people are to dumb to be given the full blown version to review?

I challenge anyone reading this to start firing off emails and phone calls.
